Review: Cemetery Boys

Cemetery Boys

All the stars to Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book was absolutely perfect! It has a ghostie meet-cute, trans characters, m/m romance, and is set over Halloween and Día de los Muertos. It made my heart explode with cuteness and stress (!!!), and I seriously can’t recommend it enough.

The story follows Yadriel, a trans boy who is trying to prove to his family and community that he is a brujo. After accidently summoning a spirt, he finds himself caught up in quite the situation, and ends up working with his best friend and the ghost he summoned to find a murderer.

I loved all the characters in this book for very different reasons. They all have relatable traits, and mesh so well together I could picture them and their relationships perfectly. The entire book conjured such vivid images in my mind while reading; I was totally immersed, and found myself literally gripping the book and flipping pages so fast to find out what was going to happen next.

The setting alone was enough to make me fall in love with this story, but the themes and diversity, and way it was all wrapped up and presented was just👌

Not everything is perfect in this book. Yadriel is often misgendered, his dead name is brought up, and he is constantly reminding people who he really is. However, he also finds the support and strength to be himself, and you can’t help but to cheer him on. Sure, the classic “found family” theme isn’t new, but I loved seeing it presented in a very realistic way.

If you’re in the market for a paranormal romance, please check out Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. I’m going to be talking about it for a while, and hope more friends can join in the discussion.
