I finished reading Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power just over one week ago, and after screaming into the void because OMG, IT’S JUST SO GOOD (!!!), I am finally ready to write actual words about how truly wonderful this book is.

When I first read the synopsis for The Split by Sharon Bolton, I was hooked: a young glaciologist takes a job in Antarctica to escape a troubled past that is maybe, somehow, finally catching up with her? Yes please! The setting alone was enough to make me want to read this one, not to mention the glowing reviews already online for this title. While I guessed part of the plot twist early on, I was still invested enough in the story as a whole to see it through to the end.
Alright friends, I did it again. I judged a book by its cover and decided to read The Paper Wasp by Lauren Acampora because I thought the artwork was absolutely beautiful. I finished this debut novel last week and am still thinking about it, which to me, is the mark of a good book.
I’ve never really read psychological thrillers. Not until all the hype around Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train finally convinced me to finally give them a try about a year ago. I’ll admit I read both of the aforementioned books, and really didn’t like them. I thought I’d be in for crazy plot twists that spun my head around, but I found them to be both way too predictable, and honestly, somewhat boring.
Fast forward to the beginning of April and I found myself getting two more psychological thrillers from the library. Why? Well, I didn’t think it was fair to judge an entire genre based on my experience with two books that were, in my opinion, unnecessarily hyped up. Giving this genre a second chance was probably one of the best decisions I made this month, because these two books were amazing. Continue reading
